Abstract. In recent years, wheat grain production in Russia has been growing. However, its quality tends to decrease that preconditions the Russian procurements of foreign high-quality grain. An analysis of the reasons for this situation indicates serious shortcomings in the system of its production. Among new varieties, there are still many forms that are not capable of forming high-quality food grain. In the State Register of Selection Achievements Authorized for Use no more than 68% of 314 varieties of winter wheat and no more than 61% of 228 varieties of spring wheat are suitable for producing grain that meets the requirements of strong and valuable grain. It is possible to realize the potential of new wheat varieties in the formation of high-quality grain crops by including intensive technologies in its production system that ensure the efficient use of zonal soil and climatic resources and means of intensifying agriculture (organic and mineral fertilizers, biological products and products for plant protection against weeds, pests, and diseases) guaranteeing environmental safety. An effective means of increasing the level of manufacturability of grain production and reducing losses associated with the violation of technological processes will be the simultaneous creation of a targeted concessional lending system for the development of intensive technologies with the involvement of scientists and experts. The organization of the domestic agricultural machinery production is of particular importance; it provides for the planned increase in labour productivity and the involvement of agricultural businesses in solving the problems associated with the cultivation of high-quality grain.
