Abstract. The experiments were conducted in 2017–2019 in the Kirov region. The purpose was to assess the productivity, ecological plasticity, and stability of chaffy oats varieties for fodder and universal use in the Volga-Vyatka region. The material for the study was 10 varieties of chaffy oats involved in competitive variety testing. The standard was Krechet variety. Intensive varieties Medved’ (7.10 t/ha), Berber (6.94 t/ha), Falenets (7.06 t/ha), and 325h12 (7.03 t/ha) were characterized by high genetic flexibility in grain yield. The lines of the medium intensity of 4h14 and 325h12 were classified as high-yielding (6.42 t/ha and 6.76 t/ha, respectively) with stable grain productivity under changing environmental conditions. The duration of the period from sprouting and earing had a positive effect on the accumulation of green mass (r = 0.77). The highest yield of green mass was observed in Medved’ (39.4 t/ha) and 4h14 (33.9 t/ha) varieties. The highest yield of dry matter was registered in the Medved’ variety (7.64 t/ha). We established a significant close dependence of the value of this indicator on the HTC (r = 0.63) and the duration of the growing season (r = 0.73). The highest ecological plasticity for the dry matter yield was observed in Sapsan (bi = 1.56) and Berber (bi = 1.46) varieties. An average positive relationship (r = 0.43) between the value of this indicator and the height of the plant was recorded. Medved’ (15.1 cm), Berber (11.9 cm), and 4h14 (13.6 cm) varieties significantly exceeded the standard in the height of plants. The greatest leafiness was observed in Berber (73.8%), Falenets (72.9%), and 4h14 (70.6%) varieties. The best genotypes were intensive Medved variety with a high yield of green mass (39.41 t/ha) and dry matter (7.64 t/ha) with sufficiently high grain yield (6.42 t/ha), as well as medium intensive 4h14 variety of universal direction with tall plants (81.5 cm), good leafiness (70.6%) and leaf area (82.6 cm2).

Keywords: chaffy oats (Avena sativa L.); yield; green mass; dry matter; leaf area; vegetation conditions; plasticity; stability.
