Abstract. The phytoseiid mite Neoseiulus barkeri Hughes (Mesostigmata: Phytoseiidae) is widely used in greenhouses as a biological control agent against herbivorous thrips (Thysanoptera: Thripidae): tobacco thrips Thrips tabaci Lindeman and western flower thrips Franklinilla ocdecidentalis Pergande. The purpose of the studies was to assess the sensitivity of the greenhouse population of the predatory mite Neoseiulus barkeri to pesticides. We tested pesticides used in the Russian protected ground: Phytoverm (aversectin C), Novaktion (malathion), Aktellic (pyrimophos-methyl), and Konfidor Extra (imidacloprid); and promising pesticides: Proklame (emamectin benzoate), Scelta (cyflumetofen), Noktyurn (pyridalyl), and Oberon (spiromesifen). The experiments used the manufacturer’s recommended concentration of the preparation (T), half concentration (1/2 T), in some cases, double concentration (2 T). The studies were conducted on a population of Neoseiulus barkeri found on cucumber plants in industrial greenhouses in the Moscow region. In the experiment, 20–30 females or nymphs were placed on the leaves of a bean plant. Plants were immersed into aqueous solutions of the tested preparations of a certain concentration or into water (control) for 3 seconds. The mortality rate of phytoseiid mites was assessed in 48 h after pesticide treatment. In the recommended production concentrations, Konfidor, Noktyurn, and Phytoverm showed moderate toxicity to females of N. barkeri (mortality rate ranged from 22% to 33%); Proklame, Novaktion, and Oberon showed relatively high toxicity (mortality rate ranged from 41% to 42%). For nymphs, the preparations Scelta and Konfidor were non-toxic (mortality rate was 3.7% and 8.9%, respectively); Novaktion showed high toxicity (mortality rate was 93.3%). In laboratory experiments, it was concluded that a population of the predatory mite N. barkeri, resistant to some pesticides, was formed in the protected ground.
