Abstract. The purpose of the research was to study the influence of morphological features and phenotypic traits on pea productivity to determine a more promising morphotype under conditions of the Middle Urals. We determined the correlation level between separate productivity elements and their quantitative differences in laminar and leafless forms. The experiments were conducted in 2018–2020 at the Krasnoufimsky breeding centre located in the southwest of the Sverdlovsk region (northern forest-steppe of the Cis-Urals). As the study objects, we used the most productive laminar (short-stemmed – 16-332 and Edem; long-stemmed – 15-81, 16-305, 16-310, 16-278, Marafon, 15-102, 16-35, and 16-43) and leafless (15-165, Krasnoufimsky 20, 16-144, 14-279 (determinant), Krasnoufimsky 11, 17-238, Fakel, Altyn, 15-77, and 16-317) pea lines from the competitive testing nursery. Leafless varieties were characterized by a higher productivity potential in comparison with laminar forms (4.1 t/ha and 3.9 t/ha, respectively). Leafless genotypes surpassed laminar genotypes in terms of the mass of 1000 grains – by 13 g, the protein content in seeds – by 1.4%, the number of pods per plant – by 0.9 pcs, the number of fertile nodes – by 0.4 pcs, the number of seeds per plant – by 2.0 pcs, and the mass of seeds per plant – by 0.2 g. The formation of productivity elements of leafless and laminar forms was influenced to a greater extent by environmental conditions (31.8–56.8%) and, to a lesser extent, by the characteristics of the genotype (6.6–14.0%). According to the results of the correlation analysis (alpha = 0.05), the productivity of laminar pea forms depended more on the mass of 1,000 seeds (r = 0.462); the productivity of leafless morphotype depended on the number of fertile nodes (r = 0.513), beans per plant (r = 0.475), and seed size (r = 0.334). An increase in the yield did not have a negative effect on the accumulation of protein in seeds in pea of the leafless morphotype (r = 0.284), in contrast to laminar forms (r = -0.315).
