Optimization of technology elements for growing garden strawberry seedlings in plugs (cassettes)

Abstract. The study aimed to optimize agricultural technology for growing garden strawberry seedlings in plugs with a substrate (peat + sand). The work was performed in the Tambov region in 2016–2019. In the experiments, we planted seedlings of strawberry varieties Honey, Vima Zanta, NF 311, NF 421, NF 205, Vima Kimberly, Vima Xima, and Elsanta. In a series of experiments, we studied such factors as singling time (2016–2017): the second ten-day period of July (control), the second ten-day period of August; fertilizer (2016–2018): without additional agricultural practices (control), fertilizer (Agromaster N13P40K13), fertilizer (Agromaster N13P40K13) + rooting biostimulator (Radifarm); cassette volume (2018–2019): 70 cm3 (control), 40 cm3; variety (2018–2019): NF 311 (Alba), NF421 (Asia), NF205 (Roxana), Vima Kimberly, Vima Xima, Elsanta (control). The root weight of Vima Zanta variety, when picking in the 2nd ten-day period of August, exceeded that of the control by 15.8%. When using the fertilizer separately and together with the rooting phytoregulator, the quality of seedlings of NF 421 variety was higher than in the control – by 14.1–17.2% in terms of the diameter of the spur of the previous year, by 58.4–59.2% and 22.4–28.5% in terms of the weight and length of the roots, by 29.6–47.9% in terms of root saturation. In the option with a cassette volume of 40 cm3, the root saturation of the seedlings was higher than in the control by 82.5%; the total length and weight of roots were higher by 21.1% and 45.8%, respectively; the diameter of the spur of the previous year was higher by 22.9%. The diameter of the spur of the previous year in the seedlings of all studied varieties was larger than in the control by 23.6% (NF 205)–45.5% (Vima Xima). In terms of root weight, the control was exceeded by the varieties Vima Xima (by 63%) and Vima Kimberly (by 97.0%); in terms of root saturation, the control was exceeded by the varieties NF205 (by 50.3%), Vima Kimberly (by 57.0%), and Vima Xima (119.2%).
