Abstract. The purpose of the research was to study the polymorphism of the tumor necrosis factor alpha gene (Bos taurus TNF-alpha -824 A/G) in Holstein cattle. DNA testing of 147 Tatarstan Holstein first-calf cows by PCR-RFLP method revealed the following distribution: TNF-alpha(G) and TNF-alpha(A) alleles – 0.816 and 0.184, respectively; TNF-alpha(GG), TNF-alpha(GA), and TNF-alpha(AA) genotypes – 66.67%, 29.93%, and 3.40%, respectively. Frequencies of alleles and genotypes of TNF-alpha gene depended on the habitat and breed. At birth, carriers of the homozygous TNF-alpha(G) allele outperformed their contemporaries with TNF-alpha(AA) and TNF-alpha(GA) genotypes in live weight by 1.8 kg and 1.2 kg, respectively. At the age of 18 months, the value of this indicator in animals with the TNF-alpha(G) allele was minimal – by 15.7 kg and 14.2 kg less than in animals with TNF-alpha(AA) and TNF-alpha(GA) genotypes, respectively. Absolute (kg) and average daily (g) gain in different age periods were higher in animals with TNF-alpha(AA) and TNF-alpha(GA) genotypes. Milk yield for the first full and standard lactation and protein content in milk was statistically significantly higher in first-calf cows with the TNF-alpha(AA) genotype; fat mass fraction was higher in the group with the GG genotype. In cows with the TNF-alpha(AA) genotype, the number of somatic cells was significantly lower than in animals with other genotypes – by more than 50.0. Highly productive cows with the TNF-alpha(AA) genotype were characterized by the worst reproductibility indicators in the herd for all reproductive qualities.
