Abstract. The investigation generalizes long-term data on changes in soil acidity in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan with the subsequent substantiation of the feasibility and possibility of liming the soil. The work was carried out according to the results of monitoring of soil fertility of agricultural lands, carried out by the Center of Agrochemical Service “Tatarsky”. As of 01.01.2021, the area of acidic soils in the Republic of Tatarstan was 1305.4 thousand hectares (42% of the surveyed arable land), while in a number of municipal districts their share varied from 47.8% to 67.7% of arable land. First of all, this is actual for soils with a light granulometric texture, which are characterized by a high rate of the downward flow of the soil solution and intensive leaching of carbonates. Due to the increased acidity of the soil, agricultural producers of the Republic of Tatarstan annually receive less product (by 1100 million cereal units). To solve this problem, it is necessary to increase the annual liming from 90.0 thousand hectares, which makes it impossible to overlap the increase in areas of acidic soils, to at least 200–250 thousand hectares per year in accordance with a scientifically grounded five-year cycle. The production experience of agricultural enterprises of the republic indicates that chemical soil reclamation provides an increase in the yield of grain crops up to 0.6 t/ha, green mass of corn – up to 0.45 t/ha. The costs of its implementation can be recouped in 1.5 years, and in the next 3.5 years, the conditional net income reaches 3800 roubles/ha of arable land. The material and technical base for solving this problem at the modern level is available in Tatarstan.
