Abstract. The studies aimed to screen and study bacterial strains promising as bioagents against G. mellonella L. and T. molitor L. Bacterial strains from the bioresource collection of the Federal Scientific Center for Biological Plant Protection “State Collection of Entomoacariphages and Microorganisms: Microorganisms” were studied. Screening was carried out on the criterion of entomopathogenic activity in 2019–2022. The studied strains were isolated in various habitats in the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories. The study of bacterial strains in vitro was carried out in laboratory populations of the greater wax moth Galleria mellonella L. and the large flour beetle Tenebrio molitor L., which are widely used as test objects in the study of entomopathogenic activity. In the experiments, insects were placed in Petri dishes on an artificial nutrient medium pretreated with a bacterial suspension. Petri dishes with G. mellonella L. and T. molitor L. larvae were kept at a temperature of 25-28 С and relative air humidity of 60-80%. As a result of screening, 7 of 106 studied bacteria strains showed high entomopathogenic activity against the greater wax moth G. mellonella L., the effectiveness of which on the third day was 65-95%; on the fifth day – 83-95%. Regarding the large flour beetle T. molitor L., 35 bacterial strains were tested. As a result, 8 most effective ones were identified: the mortality of larvae on the third day was noted in the range of 72–98%; on the fifth day – 81-99%. The tested bacterial strains neither adversely affect the germination energy and germination of winter wheat seeds nor cause seedlings to wilt. The results of the studies confirmed the potential prospects of the studied bacterial strains as agents of biological control of economically valuable insect pests of crops.
