Abstract. he research aimed to identify the formation features of productivity and quality indicators of spring barley grain, depending on the seeding rates and the level of nitrogen nutrition under the conditions of the forest-steppe of Altai Territory. The work was performed in a three-factor field experiment in 2018–2020. The experimental design included the study of four spring barley varieties (factor A – Alej, Altaiskij 10, Vorsinskij 2, Salair); three backgrounds of nitrogen fertilizers (factor B – 0, 30 and 45 kg of active substance (AS) per 1 ha) and three seeding rates (factor C – 3, 4 and 5 million viable seeds per 1 ha). The forecrop was spring wheat. The use of nitrogen fertilizers in doses of 30 and 45 kg AS contributed to an increase in productive bushiness by 0.24 and 0.45 units, ear grain content – by 0.6 and 0.3 units, grain mass from plants – by 11.6 and 20.1%, respectively, compared to the unfertilized background. When ammonium nitrate was applied before sowing at the maximum dose in the experiment, barley formed grain with a higher protein content (12.5%) than with N30 (11.7%) and N0 (11.9%). The use of N30 and N45 on average for the varieties provided a significant, in relation to the control, increase in the yield by 0.46 and 0.60 t/ha, respectively. The most effective combinations of seeding rates and fertilizer doses for specific varieties were: Alej – 4 million seeds/ha and N30, which provides a grain yield of 4.82 t/ha with a payback of fertilizers of 14.7 kg/ha; Altaiskij 10 – 4 million seeds/ha and N45 (5.23 t/ha and 23.1 kg/ha); Vorsinskij 2 – 4 million seeds/ha and N30 (4.44 t/ha and 14.7 kg/ha); Salair – 3 million seeds/ha and N45 (4.50 t/ha and 10.2 kg/ha).
