Abstract. The research aimed to study the characteristics of harmfulness and nature of damage to fruit crops with a closed root system of O. sulcatus, and to develop effective protective measures to combat it. The work was carried out in 2018–2020 in a greenhouse under the conditions of the Moscow region. The number of beetles was counted using traps (corrugated on one side cardboard 5 cm × 10 cm in size) installed in 20 places on racks between containers. To control the number and harmfulness of adults, the above-ground parts of plants were treated 3 times with an interval of 2 weeks starting from the 4th week after the first beetles were found. The experimental design involved the study of the following preparations: Bitoxibacillin, P (BA-1500 EA/mg, titre not less than 20 billion spores/g) – 40 g/10 l of water; Fitoverm, EC (2 g/l) – 20 ml/10 l of water; Calypso, SC (480 g/l) – 4 ml / 10 l of water; control – water treatment. In all variants, the consumption rate of the working solution was 100 ml/plant. Against the larvae protective agents were applied to the soil once. The experimental design included the study of the following options: Aktara, WDG (250 g/kg) – 8 g / 10 l of water; Fitoverm, EC (2 g/l) – 30 ml / 10 l of water; Vallar, G (40 g/kg) – 50 g/10 m2; Control (water) – 10 l/10 m2. O. sulcatus damaged from 30 to 60% of seedlings of fruit crops in containers, leading to death from 20 to 40% of damaged plants. When suppressing beetles, the highest biological efficiency (100%) was demonstrated by Calypso, SC (480 g/l) at a rate of 4 ml/10 l of water, at the larval stage – a single application to the soil Vallar, G (40 g/kg) at a rate of 50 g/10 m2.

Keywords: insect; weevil; pest; Otiorhynchus sulcatus (Fabricius); protective measures.
