Abstract. The research aimed to assess and analyse the life state of tree and shrubbery plantings in arid climate to identify the most resistant species on the example of the Stavrolen LLC park in the city of Budennovsk. The park was founded in 1979. Most of the plants for its laying were obtained from the Stavropol Botanical Garden. A dendrological survey of tree and shrubbery plantings of the park was carried out in 2021. Determination of types and forms was carried out during an on-site investigation and subsequent laboratorial inspection of the material. Biometric indicators were recorded using a SUUNTO PM-5 altimeter and a calliper (the trunk diameter was measured at a height of 1.3 m). To assess the life state of trees and shrubs, the method of V.A. Alekseev was used. There were 69 species and cultural forms of gymnosperms and angiosperms in the park, originating from different floristic regions of the world. Most species belonged to the Circumboreal region (48.8%). The lowest height was observed for Rhus typhina (3.9±0.2 m), the highest for Populus nigra (16.1±0.8 m). The level of variability (coefficient of variation) of the tree height was 6.7-17.3%, which indicates the homogeneity of the sample. The lowest coefficient of trunk diameter variation was noted in Ulmus laevis (4.1%), the highest in Pinus pallasiana (22.9%). When assessing the life state of tree and shrubbery plantings, 11 species received more than 80 points, 52 species – 50-79, 6 species – 20-49 points. Among the taxa from different floristic regions, the maximum points in the experiment were scored by the species Populus alba, Rosa canina, Crataegus monogyna, C. rhipidophylla, Maclura pomifera, Rhus typhina, Mahonia aquifolia, Acer negundo, Koelreuteria paniculata, Juniperus chinensis ‘Pfitzeriana’, Cotoneaster integerrimus.
