Abstract. The research aimed to identify sources of economically valuable traits for pea breeding. Field experiments were conducted under the conditions of the southern forest-steppe of the Republic of Bashkortostan in 2019–2021. The soil of the experimental plot was leached chernozem. The study material was 50 early and mid-ripening pea varieties. Standard – a variety Pamjati Hangil'dina. During the years of research, strong differences were observed in the amount of precipitation and temperature, which made it possible to evaluate collection samples in contrasting conditions. According to the duration of the growing season, varieties Chishminskij 80, Pamjati Hangil'dina, Flagman 7 and line L-26952 were distinguished. These varieties combined early maturity (64-66 days) with relatively high productivity (170-173 g/m2). The highest resistance to lodging (Cs=0.74-0.90) was characterised by varieties of Pamjati Hangil'dina, Pamjati Popova, Batrak, Mul'tik, Flagman 12, Omskij 12, Tomas, L-300. In terms of yield, the standard variety was exceeded by the collection samples of Pamjati Popova (+11.6%), Chishminskij 95 (+7.5%), Chishminskij 229 (+13.9%), Tomas (+9.8%), L-300 (BSAU) (+11.6%). Chishminskij 95, Chishminskij 229, Flagman 12, K-7678 (USA), K-7841 (Sweden) varieties are valuable for use as initial material in breeding for drought resistance as they had the least decrease in productivity (39.6-45.9 %) under drought conditions. The lines L-26665, L-26952 and varieties Uladovskij kormovoj, K-7678 (USA), K-5840, K-6025 (Germany), K-6029 (France) with protein content in seeds 23.8-24.8% have a high ability for biosynthesis and accumulation of protein in seeds.
Keywords: common pea (Pisum sativum L.); yield; early maturity; resistance to lodging; drought resistance.
