Abstract. The research aimed to study the serological and phytopathological characteristics of potato Y-virus isolates from various regions of Russia in order to improve the strategy for combating the Y-virus. Starting from 2015, work on monitoring the strain composition of the Y-potato virus was carried out using the material of domestic and foreign potato varieties received for testing from various regions of the European part, the Volga region, the Caucasus, Siberia, and the Far East of the Russian Federation. As a result of differentiation of isolates distinguished in 2019 by serotype using specific PVY(O/C) and PVYN monoclonal antibodies (Agdia, USA) and by pathotype using a biological test on indicators (tobacco, Samsun variety), strains of PVY(O/C) (2.5%), PVY(N-Wi/N:O) (32.1%), PVY(N/NTN) (37.7%) and PVY(Z/E) (5.7%) were identified. Analysis of the population structure of potato Y-virus isolates revealed the predominance of necrotic and recombinant PVY strains in Moscow and Vologda regions and with ordinary properties in Novosibirsk and Bryansk regions. Isolates of the necrotic group PVY were not found in the sample from the Kemerovo Region and Primorsky Territory. In the samples of seed material from the Vologda region, 3 isolates with the N-serotype were also isolated, causing mosaic and lightening of the veins on indicator plants. They are tentatively assigned to the group of strains PVY(Z), PVY(E). Considering the data obtained on the distribution and population structure of PVY isolates will make it possible to adjust the tactics of protective measures against the Y-potato virus in various regions of the Russian Federation.

Keywords: potato Y-virus strains; serotyping of PVY isolates; biological test.
