New variety of spring barley Kudesnik

Abstract. The research aimed to create a high-yielding variety of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), which effectively uses the bioclimatic potential of the region. The work was carried out in 2002-2022 in the northern forest-steppe of the Tyumen region. The variety Kedr, created by hybridization with subsequent selection from the hybrid population Winner (Vyatka province) × Brigitte (Germany), was used as the maternal component. Paternal form – variety Signal. Crossing, carried out in 2002, was aimed at creating a genotype that is adaptive to the conditions of the region, combining high yield and grain quality. Since 2021, a new variety of spring barley of the grain forage direction Kudesnik has been included in the state register of breeding achievements in 4, 10, 11 and 12 regions of the Russian Federation. It is recommended for cultivation in the Amur, Kemerovo, Sverdlovsk and Tyumen regions, as well as in the Altai, Trans-Baikal, Perm, Primorsky and Khabarovsk regions. The variety is medium-early (from germination to wax ripeness 68-76 days), medium-sized (plant height 50.4-92.8 cm), resistant to lodging. The average grain yield for the years (2016-2021) of the study under the conditions of the northern forest-steppe of the Tyumen region was 5.90 t/ha, exceeding the standard variety Abalak by 0.51 t/ha. The maximum grain harvest (7.56 t/ha) was recorded in 2020. The technological properties of grain are high (nature 637.0-743.0 g/l, filminess 5.61-8.50%, weight of 1000 seeds 44.2-52 .7 g). The variety is moderately resistant to spring-summer drought. The average indicator of the index of ecological plasticity of the variety Kudesnik in the nursery of competitive variety testing was higher than that of the most common genotypes in the region by 0.1.
