Abstract. The research aimed to create a new highly productive variety of soft spring wheat for the conditions of the Middle Volga and Ural regions and assess its economically valuable traits, grain quality, adaptability and resistance to pathogens. The work was carried out in 2017-2021 in the forest-steppe zone of the Samara region. The new variety Kinelskaya Zvezda was studied according to the State Variety Testing Method, comparison was made with the standard Tulaikovskaya Nadezhda and the released variety Kinelskaya Yubileinaya. The variety was obtained by intraspecific hybridization and selection from a hybrid population (Kinelskaya 59 / Albidum 28 // Prokhorovka) according to the classical breeding scheme. The new variety Kinelskaya Zvezda was characterised by a high and stable grain yield of 2.39-3.78 t/ha (average 3.11 t/ha), the average increase over the standard was 0.43 t/ha or 16.0%, over variety Kinelskaya Yubileinaya – 0.13 t/ha or 4.4%. The adaptability of the new variety was 109.7%, which was higher than the Kinelskaya Yubileinaya variety by 6.1% and the standard – by 16.0%. It was highly resistant to stress (-1.39) and had the smallest yield range (36.8%), which was the greatest stability in the region. The variety was distinguished by high tillering capacity on average 2.1 pcs. (the standard had 1.6 pcs.) and the number of productive stems for harvesting was 514 pcs/m2, which was 58 pcs/m2 higher than the standard. The variety Kinelskaya Zvezda was distinguished by high grain content (821-826 g/l), high gluten content in grain (26.0-32.0%), the second quality group (84-92 IDK units), consistently high flour strength 399-503 e.a., the volume yield of bread was on average 1150 ml. The overall baking score was high – 4.6 points, which corresponded to the norm of a strong variety. The new variety Kinelskaya Zvezda has been undergoing state testing in the Middle Volga and Ural regions of the Russian Federation since 2022.
